GovLoop aims at facilitating government buying and save tax dollars!!

Government is the biggest buyer on the planet - yet there is little information to buy smart (no Amazon/Yelp for government).  If you bought a TV, you can go to 10 sites to get user reviews and comparison pricing. If government bought better, it would help us all.  Every dollar saved would go to delivering services to the needy or go back to the citizens’ wallet.

A spring of hope plans to map schools in Africa more efficiently.

Because many of A Spring of Hope schools are on unmarked roads, it can often be very difficult to locate schools. ASOH needs some way to mark school locations by GPS and compile all of the school information with folders in that plotted point (school contact info, number of students, most recent update, etc.) These facts, updates, and plotted location need to be uploaded to our website in realtime for transparency to our donors.

PalmLing’s vision for aiding aid workers

Founder’s Ryan Frankel <ryan@palmling.com> and Kunal Sardana <kunal.sarda@gmail.com> will be pitching their vision to make communication easier for aid workers.

1. State the problem in 3 lines or less.

Over forty percent of international travelers report being in critical situations where they cannot communicate because of a language barrier. Ryan, one of the co-founders of PalmLing, got violently ill during a trip to China, and could not explain what meds he needed to the local pharmacist. This happened despite the myriad translation aids such as pocket dictionaries and translation apps that Ryan had at his disposal.
